Better known as “Swedish” massage, European massage focuses on the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue to promote a balanced state of health. Using techniques such as stroking, kneading, tapotement, vibration and friction, the therapist can enhance health and body awareness as well as assist in recovery from injuries. Considered by many as “medical massage,” European massage has been proven to reduce heart rate and blood pressure, improve blood circulation and lymph flow and increase endorphin production – the body’s own painkiller. It is also beneficial in pre and post sports events, stress reduction, relieving sports injuries, improving joint movement, soothing muscle aches, pain, stiffness, and reducing muscle spasms.
Other modalities of massage therapy offered at the Integrative Health Center include Sports Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Lymphatic and Pregnancy massage.
